GENTLY: Learning About Environmental Sustainability Through Games 1200 900 Active Youth

The Erasmus+ project “GENTLY“, which stands for Games for Energy Efficiency Youth Literacy, has conducted a three-day training course for participants from seven countries. Experts in the field and young specialists from Germany, Cyprus, Lithuania, Romania, Spain, and Hungary have gathered in Greece, Thessaloniki on May 8th-11th. The event helped participants gain valuable insights into ways to promote environmental sustainability through game-based learning.

Introducing the objectives of the training course

The training kicked off with an engaging opening speech by the organiser, offering participants an exciting opportunity to delve into the project’s different stages and discover its primary goals. This was followed by a round of introductions led by the project partners, encouraging everyone to get to know each other and fostering a sense of connection. To deepen understanding, a thought-provoking presentation was delivered, highlighting the environmental challenges in the European Union and emphasizing the crucial importance of energy efficiency in addressing these issues.

Trivial Pursuit: a board game about environmental issues

The second day of the training was entirely devoted to the thrilling testing phase of the board game developed by the project partners, modelled after a beloved Trivial Pursuit. This engaging game challenged players to answer thought-provoking questions about the environmental issues of all partner countries. Not only did it put their knowledge to the test, but it also served as a valuable educational tool, enlightening participants about the pressing topics of sustainability, climate change, and environmental protection.

Participants testing their own skills

As the training course entered its third and final day, participants had the exciting opportunity to put their skills to the test with the digital version of the game. This innovative twist allowed players to engage in interactive trivia from their computers, adding a new excitement to the experience.

An inspiring lecture on energy efficiency investments

Bringing the day to a memorable close, a guest speaker delivered an insightful lecture on energy efficiency investments in the Balkans. The engaging talk provided interesting perspectives and further enriched the participants’ understanding of the topic. With this enlightening conclusion, the training course left everyone inspired and empowered to make a positive impact in the realm of energy efficiency and game-based learning.

What has been achieved in the training course?

The training course served as an amazing opportunity for young specialists and field experts to share ideas, broaden their perspectives, and experience hands-on tools designed to educate young people on the topics of energy efficiency and climate change. The event also allowed participants to experience the rich culture of the city of Thessaloniki, as all partners could explore the streets and museums of the second-biggest city in Greece.
