In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, the role of youth workers is more important than ever. From April 27 to May 2, 2025, Ay Institute took a giant leap forward in embracing digital innovation as part of the Erasmus+ training course, “Tech-savvy: When Youth Work Meets Tech.” This immersive, week-long program brought together youth workers from across Europe to explore how technology can empower young people while fostering ethical and inclusive practices.
Transforming Mindsets Through Digital Literacy
The digital age is no longer just a backdrop to young people’s lives; it’s an integral part of how they interact, learn, and grow. With this in mind, AY Institute’s participation in this training course was driven by a clear goal: to help youth workers not only bridge the digital divide but also use technology as a tool for purpose-driven engagement.

Throughout the week, participants delved into collaborative workshops that explored a range of topics from inclusive communication strategies to ethical digital practices. This hands-on experience not only equipped youth workers with technical skills but also helped them develop a mindset focused on using technology responsibly and creatively. The overarching theme was clear: technology can amplify youth engagement, but it must be human-centered, responsible, and accessible to all.
Wellbeing and Inclusion at the Core
While the focus was on digital literacy, AY Institute recognized that wellbeing and inclusion must remain at the heart of any innovation. Each day of the course began with mindfulness practices, including breathwork and meditation, to help participants develop emotional resilience and clarity. These practices were a reminder that effective youth work — both online and offline — requires an awareness of the emotional and psychological needs of young people.

The training was particularly mindful of participants from underrepresented backgrounds, ensuring that the tools and knowledge shared during the week were accessible to those who might not have had previous opportunities to engage with digital tools. This approach reflects Ay Institute’s commitment to ensuring that all youth workers, regardless of their background, have the chance to engage with technology in meaningful ways.
From Learning to Action
The impact of this training extends far beyond the classroom. Youth workers left the course equipped with new tools and strategies to apply in their local communities. From digital storytelling projects to peer-led mentoring initiatives, the lessons learned during the training are already beginning to take root across Europe.
At AY Institute, we’re already integrating these insights into our local programs, empowering young people to become not just passive consumers of digital content but active, responsible digital citizens. The new skills and ideas are helping shape the future of youth work in a digital world — a future where technology fosters connection, inclusion, and growth.
Looking Ahead
As AY Institute continues to move forward, we remain committed to shaping a future where technology supports inclusion, equity, and personal growth. Our participation in the “Tech-savvy: When Youth Work Meets Tech” training course is just one step in a larger movement to harness the power of technology to create more inclusive, engaging, and impactful youth work. Together, we are embracing the digital shift and leading the way toward a more connected, empowered future for young people everywhere.
